President Bola Tinubu wants the Senate to authorize the dismissal of three Resident Electoral Commissioners who serve Sokoto and Adamawa and Abia states.
During the 2023 general election the officials Ike Uzochukwu (Abia), Hudu Yunusa-Ari (Adamawa) and Nura Ali (Sokoto) faced misconduct allegations. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) suspended the officials before Bola Tinubu became the president.
Tinubu wrote to Senate President Godswill Akpabio to explain how the officials were suspended since March 2022 before his government started. Tinubu requested immediate treatment from the Senate regarding this matter.
The letter which President Tinubu submitted was delivered as a reading in the Senate plenary meeting.
The Senate should speedily process this petition I have submitted. I extend my greatest honor to all distinguished senators and Senate President while addressing them.
Budget Increase Request
Through another written document President Tinubu asked for extending the 2025 budget from N49.7 trillion to N54.2 trillion.
The budget request received reference from Senate President Akpabio before he directed it to the Senate Committee on Finance and Appropriations for assessment.
Upcoming parliamentary meetings will encompass examination of these issues according to current expectations.
